Setting Up A Titration

The quantitative analysis technique that we are going to use in this assessment in called a titration. Precision and accuracy are very important when we set up a titration. Because of this, we need to make sure we rinse the equipment with appropriate solutions (or distilled water).

Our first titration for learning the skills is to determine the exact concentration of diluted HCl (approximately 0.1 mol L-1). This was made for us by diluting the lab HCl (it claims to be 1 mol L-1) by a factor of ten, using a volumetric flask. We are using our standard sodium carbonate solution (and methyl orange indicator) to do this. Therefore the solutions discussed in the video (and written on the whiteboard) are for this specific example.
